Inglourious Basterds Inspired Apple Strudels

If you ever watched Inglorious Basterds, you should remember the scene that Shosanna and Col. Hans Landa, the Jew Hunter, eating strudels after meeting the group for the movie premier at her cinema. I was watching this film last night again and couldn’t help my eye on that yummy strudel. In the movie, they emphasis to “wait for the cream”. Um… I never had a strudel with cream before. Is it really better with cream? Now, I can tell you, yes, it is!!!

Yes, wait for the cream!

Look how yummy the strudel in Inglourious Basterds

While enjoying the NHL all-star game this afternoon, I also made the apple strudels. I wasn’t feeling to go out today but for that “cream”, I went to the grocery store between the all-star game break. I used this GermanApple Strudel recipe mainly because I have all the ingredients at home for this recipe. This is the first time I made strudel and it is not that hard to make. I think this recipe is good but I have some suggestions:
  •  Use less than ¾ cup water for the dough. It was a bit too much and I ended up adding ½ - 1 cup more flour. I am not sure if this is the cause of my strudel a bit dry.
  • Add more sugar for the filling if you like sweet. It is ok sweet for me but I think it would not be sweet enough for most people.
Add a think layer of filling on the stretched dough.

Carefully roll the dough.

Bake for 30 minutes.

Cut into 2 inches pieces and the strudel is ready!

As for the cream, I used the heavy whipping cream. I just whipped it on high speed until it is thicken. I forgot to add sugar to the cream maybe that’s why I think the strudel is not sweet enough. Freshly whipped cream is so much better than the cool-whip or the redid-wip! Just dust your strudel with powder sugar and top with the freshly whipped cream. Yum~
